2013 Year in Review

2013 was the year of companies providing some kind of artifact that represents the events and happenings from the whole year. For our PagerDuty end of the year Hack Day, I created this drawing that captures the company culture and activities from the year.

The drawing includes many moments from 2013. As an early stage startup, we were a small, yet close nit group that shared and celebrated several wins. In 2013, we received a pretty significant round of funding and moved into a "more grown up" office in the SOMA district of San Francisco. These two major events are recorded in the illustration.

In addition, other events, signicant things, and shenanigans are included: the first PagerDuty "Pagey" costume (that I concepted and made for a co-worker at our first office Halloween Happy Hour), googley eyes, rock climbing, PagerDuty Rules!, Nerf gun fights, our coffee machine that we named Susan, Dave hive, the trophy from a previous Hack Day... and other inside jokes and references.

Concept and Sketching

First, I made a list of the significant events from the year. Next, I began sketching. Starting with two-point perspective, I drew the corner that our new office is located. I then started to fill in with recognizable items from the events and including how to bring in co-workers. I drew charicatures of my co-workers. After the sketch, I outlined in black pen, then filled in with colored markers. The final touch was googley eyes.
